Overseer
Overseer Tyler is a respected spiritual leader, pastor, educator, and community servant whose life reflects humility, integrity, and unwavering devotion to Christ. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, his spiritual journey was profoundly shaped during his service in the United States Army, where he accepted Jesus Christ while stationed in Würzburg, Germany. Mark Tyler completed his missionary training at Christians in Action located in Long Beach California. There he received valuable training and experience in foreign missions. While a member of Brownsville Community Baptist Church he met and married the love of his life Roslyn Tyler. Mark and Roslyn have two son, Mark II and Daniel and two grandsons, Daniel P and Mason.
Licensed and ordained in 1983, Overseer Tyler pursued theological training at the New York School of the Bible and Brownsville’s Bible Institute, later serving as an instructor in biblical studies. In 2004, he accepted the call to pastor New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brooklyn, where he faithfully served as Senior Pastor for 18 years. He later served as Interim Pastor of Brownsville Community Baptist Church before relocating to South Carolina. In addition to his ministerial service, Overseer Tyler dedicated 32 years to the New York City Transit Authority, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to faith and civic responsibility.
He received Chaplaincy credentials in 2021 and was elevated to the office of Overseer in 2023. He currently serves at Kingdom Word & Worship Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop Shirley Stanfill. A co-author and contributor to Fundamental Truths, Overseer Tyler has played a pivotal role in developing discipleship and foundational education programs that equip believers for spiritual maturity and effective Kingdom service. On February 21 2026 Overseer Mark Tyler received his Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Christian Education from the Michaels Christian University for his enduring impact in Christian teaching, leadership development, and the advancement of biblical education.
Overseer Mark Tyler is always grateful for the Grace of God. And lives in expectation of Christ’s return. While the Lord tarries He labors in fulfilling the call to save the lost, strengthen the weak and develop the strong.
